An Owlish Rescue…Before a Perfect Party
A Sammy & Lee Bushy Tale Adventure
About the Book
Sammy and Lee are two bushy-tailed red squirrels who are as close as brothers can be. They live with Momma in the cozy hollow of a conifer tree alongside a winding stream. They love to scamper and scurry all day through the tall trees and over fallen logs searching for nuts and seeds. Older and stronger, Sammy leads the way. He often looks back checking on his younger brother. Today is special. Sammy and Lee will celebrate their cousin Susie’s third birthday. Momma has made a three-tiered cake. There will be singing and dancing, balloons, party gifts, and fun for all. Scurrying home to join the fun, our bushy-tailed heroes run across (almost literally) a perplexed Owl on a tree branch whose claw is tangled in a ball of yarn that binds him to the branch and prevents him from flying to his nest above. He tries not to show it, but he is worried. The brothers go to work and before too long they free Mr. Owl who flies home where his owlets await. The grateful Owl pledges to always watch over his new friends. Proud that they solved this owlish predicament, the red-tailed heroes arrive home just in time to enjoy a perfect party. At the end of the day, Sammy and Lee, exhausted but content, drift off to sleep as Mr. Owl looks through their moonlit window—now their watchful guardian for life.
